Why do the moon and stars fascinate me? I suppose it’s because when I look up and see how vast the world really is my problems don’t seem so big. Someone always has it worse. Someone, maybe even one house over, has deeper non-fixable issues. Yes, I may be dealing with this or that but it’s not this and that.

When I was pregnant with my second child, my (now ex) husband went to Kuwait and became a hostage. I didn’t have contact with him for months and had no clue if he was alive or not. This was tragic. I had a two year old and one on the way. I wasn’t working and didn’t know how I would support us if something happened to my husband. My family was my entire world. I didn’t believe I could function without my husband being in my life. I watched the news every minute possible. I knew no one had it as bad as me.

One day as I watched the news, they told a story about a soldier that died in Kuwait leaving his wife and four kids. This woman definitely had it worse than me. I realized in that moment that no matter what I was going through, someone on the planet had it worse.

So no matter what life is throwing at you or how alone you feel in your misery, look up at the moon and stars and realize someone is dealing with something much worse. And remember you are strong, powerful and in control of your life. You got this!
